Jennifer Abbatacola is the common sense candidate currently serving you on the Kane County Board. Her priority is clear: Protecting the long-term partnership between ecology and economy in Western Kane County.
The people of Western Kane deeply value our open spaces, family farms, forest preserves, and the peaceful character of our communities. Those landscapes are part of our identity and deserve thoughtful stewardship and respect for private property rights.
At the same time, “we the people” understand the importance of growing a local economy that helps reduce pressure on taxpayers. That means carefully and strategically supporting the right kinds of economic growth in the right locations — including advanced manufacturing, OEMs, and high-quality employers that quietly strengthen the tax base, create opportunity, and support local families and small businesses.
A healthy economy and responsible ecology can coexist when leadership focuses on planning, balance, and long-term thinking.

About Jennifer Swanson Abbatacola
I’m standing in front of an original log cabin moved to the Hampshire Forest Preserve—weathered, sturdy, and still standing with purpose. It reminds me of the grit and determination of the early settlers who used pure ingenuity to turn something completely uninhabitable in the dead of January into a place their families could call home.
I am grateful for the great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents who built the Western Kane County we know today—safe, quiet, and beautiful. (What is more beautiful than a drive west on Big Timber at sunset?) Their sacrifices created the foundation that allowed so many families, including mine, to grow and flourish here.
Born and raised in Illinois and grounded in strong Midwestern values, I’ve spent 19 years in Hampshire. I’m the daughter of the best tool-and-die maker in the world and the first in my family to graduate from college. My parents made it easy for me to love Jesus and love America.
My career has moved between the marketplace and the nonprofit world, and I’ve loved every piece of it. I spent 15 years in zero-margin-for-error environments—policy, procedure, compliance, and compassionate care. I recruited, trained, and managed thousands of volunteers. Later, as a business owner serving small-business America, I’ve met with over 700 business owners here in Kane County. I learned that the people and companies I’ve had the honor to work with have shaped me into the leader I am today. I am thankful to each person who encouraged me, provided constructive feedback when I could do better and extended me grace when I failed.
I believe deeply that without safety and security, there is no freedom—and without safety, our property values and culture plummet. I believe we must continue to say no to an oppressive tax system. Our money is our money. We earned it to care for our families and build our lives. Whether it’s $14, $1,400, or $14,000 a year, it belongs to the people—not to a government continually asking for more. There is a third way to fund important government services and competitively compensate hard-working government employees without demanding more of our money, and I am committed to pursuing it.
I’m a political outsider who leads with intention, clarity, and respect for community. I’m an avid gardener, raised a family, 35 year working professional and a widow since July 4, 2017—an experience that fueled me to make every day count.
Over the past year, I’ve quietly continued to grow—sitting through countless meetings, listening more than I spoke, studying, and learning the way decisions are actually made for Western Kane County. I’ve spent this year learning the landscape so I can lead with intention, not impulse. What I’ve seen has strengthened my resolve: we need to protect our safe communities, innovate a smarter approach to taxes, nurture stronger support for our businesses environment, and build long-term planning that respects our way of life. After a year of doing the work behind the scenes—without fanfare, without seeking attention—I am ready to ask you for your help.
But this election is not about me. It’s about you. Leadership should always be about the people.
